Studio open to the public: 11.00am-4.00pm Thursday and Saturday.

Uillinn: West Cork Arts Centre in partnership with Cavan County Council awarded a Studio Residency to Cavan based artist Kim Doherty. The Award is supported by a learning opportunity on the Arts for Health Partnership Programme, West Cork.

The purpose of her upcoming residency at Uillinn, West Cork Arts Centre, is for Kim to explore and develop her own voice and clarity in her work choosing a specific medium to work in.

During her four weeks at Uillinn, Kim will investigate the narrative and the notion of boundaries in her work. She will begin by selecting a series of significant words, these words will act as titles for a visual outpouring of investigative work into perceived and actual boundaries.

Kim Doherty is an artist with an extensive community based art practice working in particular; schools, healthcare and early year’s contexts. Kim believes fervently in the benefits of engaging in arts activity for the benefit of our wellbeing. Kim’s practice in recent years has focused on engaging others in the creative and often transformative potential of participatory arts.

Last year Kim began studying a Masters in Art Therapy at CIT, and while she recognizes the clinical focus of this study, it is fundamental to students on this course to acknowledge and develop their own artistic practice. The residency therefore is of particularly important for her at this time.

Kim will be working alongside artist Sarah Ruttle at Clonakilty Community Hospital in for two sessions in early September to linking in with the Arts for Health partnership programme, as part of the learning exchange and to connect with our local community.

On Friday 22 September, as part of Cork County Council’s celebration of Culture Night, Kim invites the public to join her for a social celebration and a sharing of her work at the end of the residency. A conversation about the balancing studio and facilitation work with Kim and artist Sarah Ruttle will take place in her studio and transmitted live on social media to share with Kim’s community in Cavan.
